New Member Profile: MELANIE CALZETTI-SPAHR
A few years ago, Melanie was invited to the League’s Annual Meeting by friends who are members. She was impressed by the League’s efforts to educate people about national and local issues,so decided to join. In particular, she supports the outreach for voter registration at the high school. She has two daughters in the Winchester schools and knows how important it is to encourage young people to get involved. She especially approves of the way the League makes people aware of different perspectives on political topics.
Earlier this year Melanie left her job at Fidelity Investments after twenty-two years. She volunteers at the Winchester Hospital and will soon be helping out at the new oncology center. She also likes to spend time doing yard work and just walking around Winchester neighborhoods.
Melanie and her extended family have a tradition of taking vacations together. Since many family members live in Pennsylvania, this is a way of staying in touch and making sure her daughters get to know their relatives. This past summer they traveled to Tuscany where a chef gave them a lesson on how to make a pork roast rolled in prosciutto and puff pastry, a molten chocolate cake lightly spiced with chili pepper, and fried sage leaves.
Melanie loves all kinds of cooking and baking and will spend some time this fall making apple pies and hearty stews.
