 Press release from LWVMA
LWVMA U.S. SENATE CANDIDATES FORUM

Both Democratic and Republican candidates for the U.S. Senate seat faced off
in a candidates' forum sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Massachusetts.
A video of the complete forum is available on the LWVMA website

The candidates' forum was held at the University of Massachusetts Amherst on
November 8.  Bob Paquette, host of Morning Edition on WFCR, the Amherst National
Public Radio channel, was moderator, and WFCR co-sponsored the forum.

Democrats participating were U.S. Rep. Michael Capuano, Alan Khazei, and Stephen Pagliuca.  Republicans participating were State Sen. Scott Brown and Jack E. Robinson.
Attorney General Martha Coakley did not participate because of a scheduling conflict.

These candidates will appear on the party primary ballots Dec. 8.

The final election for the Senate seat is Jan. 19, and the League plans to hold another forum with the candidates on the final ballot on January 13 at Faneuil Hall, Boston.

In the two-hour Amherst forum, the candidates answered questions in four broad areas:
the economy, climate change, war and peace, and health care.

"By presenting all the candidates in the primary races on the same stage, the League
feels registered party voters will have a chance to decide among their party's candidates,
and the majority of Massachusetts voters who are not enrolled in a political party will
have a chance to decide which ballot they want in the Dec. 8 election," said Zaxaro
Bennett, president of the Massachusetts League.
