Did Mary Surratt deserve to be executed? – You decide.

Please join the Winchester League of Women Voters for its annual book group event featuring The Assassin's Accomplice: Mary Surratt and the Plot to Kill Abraham Lincoln by local Winchester author and historian, Kate Clifford Larson.

Each year the Winchester League of Women Voters selects a book that will enliven a thought provoking discussion of politics and democracy.  The Assassin’s Accomplice should provide a different twist to our discussion.  Does this book only convince us that Mary Surratt was guilty of the worst crime imaginable and deserved to die?  Or are there parallels to today and the crimes that are committed in the name of politics? Can it tell us anything about our political enemies both inside and outside our country who are trying to destabilize democracy? What about the role of partisanship that led to this horrific event?  You be the judge.  Read the book and join the Winchester League of Women Voters and author, Kate Clifford Larson, on Tuesday, March 24 at 7pm at the Winchester Public Library for what truly will be a lively discussion.

The Winchester League of Women Voters’ Book Group is open to all members of the Winchester community and their friends.   Hard cover copies of The Assassin's Accomplice: Mary Surratt and the Plot to Kill Abraham Lincoln can be purchased at BookEnds, Winchester’s local bookseller.
