NEWS FROM THE STEERING COMMITTEE
"Winchester: The Town Where Everyone Votes" The new Steering Committee of the League of Women Voters of Winchester would like to make this motto become a reality. The six* members of the new Steering Committee met June 17 at the home of Jo-Ann Michalak to plan the coming year's events. Of course many of the plans will involve programs that people count on the League to provide, such as the candidate debates, voter registration at the high school, and the annual luncheon served in appreciation of town employees. The League is also dedicated to educating voters about local issues, so an early program will focus on funding for our schools.

The Winchester League will be doing a mailing to all new residents, providing them with information about town government and inviting them to join the League and become involved in their new town. Meredith Conway, who joined the Steering Committee last year and is the new treasurer, is eager to learn how to become the League's archivist. The newest member, Susan Verdicchio, will lead the voter registration effort. Gloria Legvold has re-joined the Steering Committee and will assist with recruiting and welcoming new members, among other work to enhance the League's efforts. Susan Lewis will continue her role as membership co-chair, with Jean Herbert.
The Steering Committee would like to thank all the members who have helped with making the past year's events so successful and look forward to working with everyone to further the League's goals of education and outreach.
* The Steering Committee now has a seventh member, Laura Steenburgh.
