Our League Future and You!!
On June 8th at our 2010 Annual Meeting, several people spoke to the need for “many hands making light work” in the context of the variety of excellent programs our League promotes during every year. Over the past few years, we have operated via a Steering Committee with no one person carrying a heavy load of responsibility. This format has been a proven success!
For the coming year – 2010 – 2011, we are starting out with seven Steering Committee members, all professional, busy, highly committed women who need more pairs of willing hands to see us all through a successful year. Thanks to Marilyn Mullane’s leadership, the Jimmy Tingle fund-raiser was an enormous success! We are in very good fiscal shape and clearly, the League’s longtime commitment to Voter’s Service, for example, has resulted in a well-deserved reputation for educating Winchester voters on topical issues and candidate positions.
Steering Committee work – when there is a complement of helpful members – means a commitment of 2.5 hours per month for meeting and another possible 2-3 hours to help with one or more planned programs in which you are particularly interested or for which you have that extra time. If you sign up to lend a hand, you will have a mentor alongside you throughout the year. We really function best with 8 - 10 Steering Committee members.
If the Winchester League – now active over a full 90 years, cannot count on members to offer some few hours a year to keep us healthy, growing and strong, we would be lookingat disbanding – surely an UNTHINKABLE thought!!!
Please give your serious consideration to joining the Steering Committee for both great fun and even greater satisfaction!
