No Fooling: Budget Forum April 1
Every day we learn of more cuts in services and proposed tax increases. Why are we in this situation? What can we do to protect the basics we expect in a commonwealth?
On April 1, 7 - 9 pm, you can learn about the state's fiscal crisis, its causes and consequences, and what we can do about it. The forum will be at the Century Bank, 400 Mystic Avenue, Medford, just off I-93. Our speakers will include:
David Sullivan, legal counsel to Governor Patrick's Office of Administration and Finance
Noah Berger, Mass. Budget and Policy Center
Judy Meredith, One Massachusetts
There will be time for questions and discussion. Refreshments have been donated by the new Whole Foods in Medford.
The forum is cosponsored by my colleagues in the House: Representatives Jason Lewis, Paul Donato, Jim Dwyer, Sean Garballey, Denise Provost, Carl Sciortino, and Tim Toomey.
This is the worst budget crisis in decades. Everything from education and healthcare to public safety and transportation is at risk with a $3.5 billion shortfall. Many residents have contacted me to ask for level or increased funding for important priorities. This is a chance to learn about the state budget and how to be a voice in the budget process.
Please come, and invite your friends. For more information, or a downloadable flyer, call my office at 617-722-1578.

Legislative Committees
I was recently assigned to serve on three committees during this legislative session: Healthcare Financing; Public Health; and Children, Families, and Persons with Disabilities. I'm looking forward to working on these important issues, including the next phase of healthcare reform in Massachusetts to make healthcare more affordable for our families and businesses.
