WHY AN ONLINE BULLETIN? Early in the Spring of 2007, Madeleine Kaiser told us she could no longer do layout for the Winchester League’s Bulletin: that is, take articles and other information and set them in a bulletin format for printing. An ad for a new volunteer layout person was run prominently in the February and March issues; an email about our need was sent to all League members; and of course we tried to identify possible candidates. We looked for individuals and groups outside the League who might provide this service. However, an additional cost for layout was not in the League’s budget. (Previously advertising revenue has just about covered the cost of printing and mailing the publication.) Finally, both the Steering committee and the Bulletin Committee felt it was time to experiment with an online bulletin, a decision that was announced at the Annual Meeting and on the cover of the Summer Issue. Winchester Leaguers who do not have email will get a tutorial on accessing the Bulletin at the Library or will be mailed a printout. We are sorry to lose Madeleine’s expertise and thank her warmly for seven years of working together. At the same time we’re fortunate that Frances Shawcross, who created and maintains our excellent Winchester League website, has kindly agreed to post the Bulletin online. There will be an opportunity for feedback about the New Bulletin at the January Brainstorm Brunch. Meanwhile, any comments or suggestions are welcome.
