Minuteman Senior Services is an agency providing non-medical services (homemakers, meals, transportation, etc.) in sixteen towns, including Winchester, to very frail, low-income seniors who can thereby continue to live in their own homes. MSS has a large state grant to start a part of the Commonwealth Corps, which will provide “stipended volunteer” positions. Full-time volunteers will receive $10,000 a year and health insurance; half-time will receive $5000, and flex-time, $2500. Some of these volunteers will be “ambassadors” from MSS to a town, building connections with local resources; some will help as needed at Minuteman Senior Services; flex-time workers will serve as escorts to medical appointments for frail seniors.
