Violence against Women and Women in Education

In recognition of Women’s History Month, the Multicultural Network and the League of Women Voters Winchester are focusing on the extra burdens of women and girls living in war zones and in countries that discriminate against women on many fronts, depriving them of educational opportunities and basic rights.  Our speakers will share their personal experiences with these issues.

Professor Dyan Mazurana, PhD, is a Research Director at the Feinstein International Center and an Associate Research Professor at The Fletcher School.  She works with governments, UN agencies, and nonprofits to address the rights of women and children during and after armed conflict.

Morgan Trevett, a senior at Winchester High School, went to Guatemala in 2013 with School the World, a nonprofit that builds schools, trains teachers, engages parents, and stocks libraries in poor countries.  She learned that most of the girls do not continue school beyond the sixth grade, but she made a friend who defied this barrier and is now a university student.

Join us as we learn about the differences and similarities we share with these women and girls.
